Spyware are programs that collect information on your computer without your noticing. This might be your surfing habits, the software you use, the data you load from the web or your hardware configuration. The information collected is sent undetected and permanently to the spyware sender or marketing companies, who then create an activity profile about you.
Spyware infects your PC undetected via so-called active content, e.g. ActiveX controls, directly from the web pages. Another way your computer may become infected is via installation of freeware from the web, which often conceals additional spyware functionality.
